The 7 Mistakes People Make Before Surgery!

Here are the most commonly seen mistakes that people make before surgery and we want to help you aviod them!

1. Smoking: It is recommened (and required for many surgeries) to abstain from smoking 6 weeks before and after surgery. smoking can cause delayed healing, wound disruption, skin loss and a longer time to heal.

2. Aspirin: Aspirin or any aspirin like medications can thin the blood and must be avoided at least 1 week before and after surgery.

3. Fish Oil & Garlic: They are the most commonly used supplements that also thin the blood and must be avoided 1 week before and after surgery.

4. Birth Control Pills -Estrogens: Must be avoided at least 2 weeks prior to surgery because of the increased risk of blood clots with any estrogen products.

5. Not Coughing: Aftere some surgeries, such as a tummy tuck, you will be advised to cough on a regular basis. This clears the lungs and allows for easier breathing. Although some people experience mind discomfort with couging after surgery it is extremely important to keep the lungs clear.

6. Not Walking: Everyone will be advised to start walking right away after surgery to aviod any blood clots in the legs and to promote circulation.

7. Eating and Drinking Before Surgery: This can cause stomach acids to enter the lungs, which can cause other isues that could potentially interfere with a safe surgery.
