Myth #1: You can fix anything with cosmetic surgery.

This is heard almost daily by cosmetic surgeons when a patient calls or comes in for a consultation. There are many factors to consider when someone is choosing to under go a cosmetic surgery procedure. The first thing to ask is, “Is the concern of the patient a real fact or deformity?” and “Will their physical limitations and situation lead to an aesthetically pleasing result in the eyes of the patient and the surgeon?” If the answer is no then the reasons why should be addressed. Cosmetic surgery can not give you a “perfect” body, nor can it fix everything. There are physical limitations limited by our own unique individual characteristics.


Myth #2: Breast Implants cause or increase your risk for breast cancer.

The Institute of Medicine found evidence that breast implants do not cause breast cancer or the recurrence of breast cancer. How ever it is still essential to undergo routine screening for breast cancer which includes: self breast exams, mammograms, and clinical breast exams. Just as you would if you didn’t have breast implants.

Myth #3: You can’t breastfeed if you have implants.

According the the Mayo Clinic, breastfeeding with implants is safe. Because breast milk is considered the primary and best choice for babies, the Mayo Clinic also encourages women with breast implants to breast feed if they are able to do so.

Myth #4: Implants need to be replaced every ten years.

Unless you are having a problem or concern then there is no need to do anything. Some patients may have reasons to want to replace their implants however; it is not required. They are man made devices and there is no guarantee as to how long an individual implant will stay intact.

Myth #5: Liposuction can be used as a weight loss tool.

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery employed to remove excess fat from specific body parts. This surgical procedure is not an alternative to exercise and dieting and should be used only to remove the stubborn fat that does not respond to exercises and diet. Liposuction is not a weight loss method but a method to remove fatty deposits throughout the body. Procedures

Breast Augmentation
Or Breast Enlargement, is enhancing the breasts using an artificial implant, which is a silicone rubber shell filled with silicone gel or inflated with a saline solution. They can be placed either directly behind the breast tissue, or beneath the pectoralis muscle. Breast Lift

Rhinoplasty

Because the nose is on the most visible part of the body, it is much harder to hide than something else. A rhinoplasty can deal with a variety of problems around this feature of the face. It can be used to increase or decrease the overall size of the nose, change the bridge or tip, and expand or narrow the nostrils and in some cases alleviate breathing problems.

Can You Breastfeed With Implants?

Breast Augmentation is a cosmetic surgery procedure that enlarges your breasts using either saline-filled implants or silicone-gel implants. Breast implants can give you the breast size you have always wanted. They can possibly boost your self-esteem and make you feel confident, but what happens when the baby arrives?

Breastfeeding with implants is one of the common concerns among women considering breast enlargement and future breastfeeding.

The good news is breast implants should not interfere with your ability to breastfeed. How the breast implant surgery is performed, however, makes a difference.The placement of the implant and location of the incisions play a major role in determining whether breastfeeding after breast augmentation is possible.

Breast implants inserted through incisions in the folds under the breasts or the armpit are less likely to disrupt milk production and delivery. Procedures using the peri-areolar, or "nipple" incision, are more likely to sever milk ducts, and affect important nerves responsible for triggering milk production and release. In these cases, a woman's breasts may produce a full milk supply, but the milk is not able to pass through damaged ducts to the nipple or be released from the nipple.

While breastfeeding with implants is definitely possible and encouraged, new moms may experience insufficient milk production. According to an Institute of Medicine study, women with implants may have a 28%-64% drop in milk production. But it's important to note that insufficient milk production does not mean a woman has to forgo breastfeeding with implants altogether.A breastfeeding mother with implants needs to keep a close watch on the amount of milk her baby is receiving and possibly supplement breast milk with bottles of formula.

Another concern is question of what happens if your breast implant leaks.

There is no reason be too worried about material from your implants winding up in your baby's body.

Breast implants filled with saline are safe; even if leaking does occur saline poses little risk to a baby. Silicone implants should not create a breastfeeding risk either. The silicone molecules used in implants are too large to easily pass into a mother's milk. In fact, it's been reported that similar amounts of silicone are found in the breast milk of women with silicone implants, women without breast implants, cow's milk, and baby formula. If you are considering having a breast implant surgery and you are planning to breastfeed with implants, it is essential to talk to your surgeon so he or she will be able to work to preserve as much of your breast tissue and milk ducts as possible.
